Henry married Charlotte Thorpe in 1845, a daughter of George and Sarah Aires Thorpe, who came to America from England in 1830 and about 1840 located on a farm in the western part of Adair County. He was bom in Coningsby, Lincoln Shire, England in 1791.
A clock-tinker by trade, he became a blacksmith and farmer in America. He died in 1858. His wife was born in Bainton, York Shire, England, in 1794. She died in 1881.
Eleven of their children lived to a ripe age. Henry and his wife bought government land joining the home where they lived the rest of their lives, except for a few years in Schuyler Count, Missouri. Ten children were born to them. Seven of them lived past their 70th birthdays.
Isaac married Amanda Lay, daughter of Nathan Lay. She died in 1870. Three of children lived to maturity. In 1872 he married Mrs. Sarah McPhetridge Truitt, a daughter of William and Maty McPhetridge, who were early pioneers. Five of their children lived to
reach adult life.
Isaac bought the home place where he lived the rest of his life, except for a short time in Southern Iowa. He was a Baptist minister, the father of twelve children. He died in 1920. Grandfather Capps (David) died in Southern Iowa in 1865. He lived with his son
Isaac after the death of his wife.

He was buried on 10 Mar 1978 in Jefferson Cemetery, Jefferson, Greene Co., Iowa. The marriage of J. D. Capps, nephew of Misses Nellie and Oliver Hopper, and Miss Rosa Shoop, occurred at the home of the bride in Novinger, Missouri, last Wednesday, June 22, 1921. The wedding was a quiet one, only the immediate relatives being present. Mr and Mrs Capps returned to Jefferson Thursday, and on Friday left for Des Moines and will be absent until the first of July. They will move on the William Hopper farm in Jackson Township. Both are fine young people, the groom having lived here all his life, and borne a reputation for high and manly character. His wife has been a school teacher in Missouri, and is a lovely girl. The Bee extends warmest congratulations and the best of good wishes to Mr. & Mrs Capps.

Second marriage notice:
J. D. Capps and Miss Mary Anderson of Green City, MO, were married Saturday, May 21, 1932 in Kirksville, MO and arrived early last week at their rural home in Jackson township. The bride and groom have been friends since childhood. Since the completion of her College Course she has been a high school teacher in several towns in Missouri.

Obituary:
The Rev. Chester W. Chappell, pastor of First Baptist Church in Jefferson, conducted services March 10, 1978 for John Dee Capps, 82, longtime Jefferson area resident.

When he was nine months old his mother died and Dee came to live with his Aunts in Jefferson. He attended grade school and high school here.

In 1917 Dee enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Company B of the 34th Division in England, France, Germany & Spain.

In 1921 Dee married Rosa Sophia Shoop. They were parent of two daughters, Rosalynd & Marie. The family lived near Jefferson. Rosa died in 1929, Dee married Mary Anderson in May of 1932 in Kirksville, MO. The couple farmed west of Jefferson, retired in 1965 and moved into town.

Mr. Capps was custodian of the First Baptist Church for several years of which he was a member, former choir member, served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Mary: two daughters, Mrs. Gordon (Rosalynd) Green of Davis, CA, and Mrs. William (Marie) Balding of Sacramento, CA; and seven grandchildren. Interment was in Jefferson Cemetery. Parents: Thomas Jefferson CAPPS and Hannah Mary HOPPER.

He was married to Rosa Sophia SHOOP on 22 Jun 1921 in Novinger, Adair Co., Missouri. Children were: Mary Rosalynd CAPPS, Clara Marie CAPPS.

He was married to Mary C. ANDERSON on 21 May 1932 in Kirksville, Adair Co., Missouri.
